Process Engineer (Junior)

Main Focus

Responsible for assisting with technical activities for the Elyria site.  Provide technical support and expertise to the production team regarding product flow optimization and improvement, process analysis, raw materials and product quality. 

Accountabilities

  • Develop Management of Change proposals
  • Prepare statistical assessments for various reasons
  • Prepare work instructions for new production at the Elyria site
  • Develop capital requests for site process improvement projects
  • Implement process improvements in the various production plants

Responsibilities

  • Develops processes, procedures, and experimental protocols
  • Conducts technically oriented assessments for safety issues, process optimization and quality improvement activities
  • Analyzes potential causes of complaints or unfavorable process outcomes
  • Analyzes benefits of new technology, sometimes in conjunction with the Maintenance & Engineering Departments
  • Suggests means to improve performance records (safety, quality and cost) of chemical processes and physical operations
  • Investigates emerging technology alternatives to improve company’s cost structure
  • Supports Health, Safety and Environmental department in troubleshooting, regulatory conformance, and risk reduction
  • Assists in the Management of Change activities including development of packages, analysis of outcomes, and recordkeeping
  • Assists in the development and recordkeeping of Process Safety Information related to process chemistry
  • Prepares new process training materials for production workers.
  • Assists in the analysis of performance using statistical tools and identifies shifts in performance related to processes and makes suggestions for improvements.
  • Troubleshoots plant equipment and control systems in the event of process failures
  • Develops and implements capital improvement projects.
  • Performs other activities as assigned by the Site Manager, Production Superintendent or Process Engineers. 

Requirements

  • Professional Training:  Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Professional experience:  Relevant manufacturing/chemical experience is a plus 
  • Ability to work in standard office setting including computer operations and light lifting, ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion, ability to work in plant and laboratory settings including to maneuver in the area of plant operations and laboratory and to manipulate various instruments for the purposes of inspection or analysis of goods and hardware.
